Visit Pasadena California

David Hallstrom asked:

No one thinks about the city of Pasadena, California, unless it is Rose Bowl or Rose Parade time, except for Los Angeles County residents and people who hear the song “Little Old Lady From Pasadena”.

When tourists think about visiting California they most often think about going to Disneyland or cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco or beach cities like Long Beach, Monterey, Newport Beach, San Diego, Santa Monica, etc.. Very few of them think about visiting or staying in “small town” Pasadena and that is a big mistake.

No matter what you are looking for in a vacation or what you wish to do you can find it in or near Pasadena. The city itself has over four hundred (400) restaurants that serve amost any type of food that you can imagine, dozens of art galleries and antique shops, fine museums like the Huntington Library and the Norton Simon Museum of Art, hotels of all categories from inexpensive motels to the Ritz Carlton, night clubs and comedy clubs, beautiful homes with magnificent gardens that can be seen while driving through the city, over two hundred (200) churches, shopping galore and much more.

Mountains, ski resorts, beaches and the desert as well as Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, The Aquarium Of The Sea, the Getty Museum, etc. are all within a one half to one hour drive. Visit Hollywood or Beverly Hills. Downtown Los Angeles is only nine freeway miles from downtown Pasadena. Visit the Arboretum, the Botanical Gardens or the Los Angeles Zoo. Take in a Dodger, Lakers, Clippers, Kings or Galexy game (all venues are less than fifteen (15) miles from Pasadena). Take in a horse race at Santa Anita, go to one of California’s largest swap meets at the Rose Bowl or just sit in an outdoor restaurant in Pasadena’s famous “Old Town” and people watch.

For more information about the city of Pasadena, California see http://pasadena.usacitydirectories.com a directory of links to city of Pasadena, California guides and directories listing hotels, restaurants, churches, physicians, attorneys, information, resources, services, things to do, places to go, art galleries, service organizations, auto dealers, nursing homes, convalescent hospitals, antique dealers and more.

Visiting the Bruce Lee Grave

Ella S. asked:

One of the things you have to see when you go visit Seattle is Bruce Lee’s grave. A lot of people don’t know that Bruce Lee is buried in a cemetery just outside the city. He’s buried there alongside his son Brandon.

I’ve been to the cemetery a couple of times, and each time I go, there have been people there paying there respects. It is probably the most visited couple of graves there in Seattle.

One interesting thing about the grave site is that the grass around there has to be replaced a few times a year because there is so much foot traffic and people visiting the grave. Last time I visited, there was a family from New Zealand there sitting under a tree right next to the grave.

It can be a little tough to try and find the grave initially, but if you get headed in the right direction, you should be able to find it.

First of all, the cemetery is located at the following address:
Lakeview Cemetery
1554 15th. Ave. E.
Seattle, WA

It’s actually located a couple of miles northeast of downtown Seattle. Once you turn into the cemetery, head up the hill towards the flagpole. The graves are located just northeast of the flagpole. You’ll most likely see another car or people sitting nearby and you can pretty much be sure that Bruce Lee’s grave is right there.

There is a great view from the site and so you’ll want to make sure that you take your camera.

One thing you might want to make a note of while you’re there is that at the edge of the roundabout there by the site is the Arthur Denny family gravesite. Arthur Denny was actually one of the founding fathers of Seattle.

All in all, if you grew up watching Bruce Lee movies like I did, then visiting the gravesite is a nice afternoon activity.

Visiting Dallas? 5 Places You Should Visit

Filed under: Travel And Leisure — Tags: , — admin @ 12:05 pm
Gabriel J. Adams asked:

Dallas, Texas is the second largest city in Texas, only trailing Houston. Dallas is a wonderful place to visit, because it offers a wide variety of different attractions that are sure to spark the interest of everyone. When visiting Dallas the 5 places you should visit are the Ballpark at Arlington, Six Flags over Texas, Dealey Plaza, the West End, and the Dallas Arboretum.

The Ballpark at Arlington is home to the Texas Rangers, and also a very brilliant architectural piece. If it is baseball season, then take in a Rangers game, because you will never forget the excitement that you will feel in that stadium. If it is not baseball season, then take a tour of the stadium and enjoy the brilliant architecture and history of the city that awaits you around every corner.

Six Flags over Texas is a wonderful amusement park that has thrilling rides, amazing shows, and tasty treats. The entrance fee is fairly pricey, but once inside you can ride all of the rides and see all of the shows for free.

Dealey Plaza was created as a grand entrance to Dallas, but now is known as the place where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. No matter if you are a history buff or not, you will definitely enjoy sitting on the Grassy Knoll, or visiting the museum in the School Book Depository.

After visiting Dealey Plaza you should venture out into the rest of The West End. The West End is a very popular destination in Dallas that has over 80 shops and 40 restaurants for your shopping and dining pleasure, as well as many other historical monuments and museums.

Once you are finished running all around the city, you should make a stop at the Dallas Arboretum. The Dallas Arboretum is a very large garden area located on the shores of White Rock Lake. This is a great place to sit down, relax, and have a picnic.

Visit the Rivers in Jamaica

Filed under: Travel And Leisure — Tags: , — admin @ 7:13 am
Kevin P McNally asked:

Jamaica is nothing less than awe inspiring and one of those great natural wonders that just adds to the majesty are the more than 100 rivers that make their way through this small island nation. Even today, many rivers are unexplored because some are not able to be navigated and often they are broken by majestic waterfalls.

Of all the rivers in Jamaica though, the widest is the Black River which is just over 73 kilometers in length of which the first 28 are able to be navigated.

With an increase in interest for water sports, many rivers in Jamaica are now highly utilized for such endeavors. However, many rivers as well are used for things like irrigation as well as domestic.

The longest river in Jamaica is the Rio Minho which starts near the Blue Mountains Peak and flows in a south-southwesterly direction to the sea and exits into Caribbean Sea by means of Carlisle Bay.

There is also a great number of underground rivers which today are becoming popular amongst the cave diving fans that find their way to Jamaica to go scuba diving. These underground rivers run through a maze of limestone caves that give access to the rivers at various points across the island.

With so many rivers around Jamaica, there is always some fun to be had in riparian sports while on a holiday in paradise. Of course all the major hotels in Jamaica have good water sports available but sometimes you want to get closer to nature and enjoy the Jamaica rivers in all their natural beauty.

Visit the Capital of Jamaica

Kevin P McNally asked:

Jamaica has some of the most colorful and richest history of many of the Caribbean islands. However, most of the islands history can be found in the capital of Jamaica, the city of Kingston. This capital city lies on the southeastern coast along a harbor which is protected by a natural sand barrier known as the Palisadoes. This sand split is also what connects the Norman Manley International Airport to Kingston and the island of Jamaica.

As the largest city in Jamaica, Kingston is home to well over 650,000 English speaking residents. Along with the capital city of Kingston, the metropolitan area also incorporates Port Royal, but are considered to be two separate parishes based on a 1923 govern enacted amalgamation. The area known as Kingston consists of two distinct areas of which one is Downtown while the other is called New Kingston. Many famous reggae stars also come from the Kingston area.

There are number of local attractions for one to see while in the capital region of Kingston which includes both the Lime Cay and Hellshire beaches as well as the ruins of Port Royal and the National Gallery of Jamaica. If you are looking for a place which is rich in history, don’t forget to check out the Devon House which is a mansion that belonged to the first black millionaire in Jamaica.

With so many things to do and see and so much history in Kingston, it should be on anyone’s Jamaican vacation itinerary as a holiday to Jamaica is perfect for a relaxing break.

Best Places to Visit on California Family Vacation

Filed under: Travel And Leisure — Tags: , — admin @ 11:41 am
Jolana Klobouk asked:

California family vacations take on various guises. It could be a back to nature trip targeting nature parks and wildlife preserves. Or it could be a fun jaunt from one amusement park to another. It could even be a drive down history lane in search of elusive facts that the history books refuse to detail. Then again, it could be a momentous tour that incorporates all of this and more. The only things certain about a California family vacation would be the enormous element of fun and all pervading sunshine.

As long as there’s Disneyland in California and you have kids, the two shall meet, possibly more than once. This would be the unwritten law as far as California family vacations are concerned. Now add Pier 39, Yosemite National Park, Legoland, San Diego Zoo, and Sea World Adventure Park to the equation and it tilts in favour of a tour of the whole State rather than just the South. With that beautiful year-round golden sunshine and silver beaches strewn all along the way, why would any one not consider a California family vacation?

You can take your California family vacation down a path less travelled into lesser known destinations like the Shasta Cascade region with its waterfalls and hypnotising rural charm. The Lake Shasta Caverns and Waterworks Park will be huge hits with the kids. Visit the ghost town in Shasta State Historic Park before you slip down to explore downtown Redding.

The northern region has plenty more to offer for a California family vacation. You should definitely visit the Redwood National Park along the coast to see the majestic red wood trees as old as time. Come down to Mount Lassen with its volcanic peaks, the Sacramento Valley, and move across to scenic Lake Tahoe.

Next stop on your California family vacation is the incredibly unique city of San Francisco. From its majestic Golden Gate Bridge to its famous twisted streets, this is one place that will surprise you with its diversity and sheer liveliness. Hop aboard a street car to visit China town or get aboard a boat cruise to explore Alcatraz. Catch the train to Fisherman’s Wharf. This is one town that is fun for the whole family.

Well, when the going gets tough, the kids start screaming. Your California family vacation now gathers momentum as it goes southward to Los Angeles, Anaheim, and San Diego. It’s time for that second wind that adds a renewed zest and flavour to your California family vacation. Disneyland in Anaheim is what the kids where waiting for and here it is. This was the promise that kept them on their best behaviour as you took your time shopping and browsing boring museums.

Things To Do While Visiting Cambria California

Filed under: Travel And Leisure — Tags: , — admin @ 10:31 pm
Laura Eggers asked:

If you want to get away to a small seaside village and just enjoy its slow pace and lovely scenery, Cambria California on the central coast is just the place. But there is more to do than just relaxing and enjoying the sunsets.

There’s no real commercial draw, except that it’s the gateway to the Big Sur coast. Many people stop here if they’re planning to visit Hearst Castle, just 6 miles up Highway One. There’s a few little motels in town, and more at Moonstone Beach, mostly with ocean views. The nearest “big” city is San Luis Obispo, about 33 miles to the southeast.

The town of Cambria is divided into the east village and the older, west village, both very walkable. On Friday afternoons there is a Farmer’s Market. It started as an artist’s colony and Victorian architecture is plentiful. There are art galleries, boutique shops and restaurants to enjoy. The Cambria Historical Society offers self-guided walking tours of the east village. You can get their brochure from The Cambrian at 2442 Main Street.

A free trolley can take you on an hour-long route, looping through both villages, Moonstone Beach Drive, Fiscalini Ranch and Cambria Pines Lodge. It leaves every half hour.

Moonstone Beach is covered with small rocks, including moonstone agate, jasper and jade. It’s fun to crunch around on them, discovering how unique each one is and how shiny they become when the sea washes over them.

Leffingwell Landing is on the north side of Moonstone Beach Drive. There, you’ll find restrooms, picnic tables and fantastic views.

There’s also tide pools to explore and a wooden boardwalk that winds along the back of the beach where you can stroll and enjoy the great views. Across the street are several motels that face the ocean.

For a spectacular walk along the bluffs of the Pacific, go to Fiscalini Ranch. You can park at the end of Windsor Boulevard. In spring time, the wildflowers are blooming as you walk out along the path overlooking the ocean with the crashing surf below.

Probably the most well known place for Cambria lodging is the Cambria Pines Lodge. It’s not by the beach, but up in the monterey pine covered hills at 2905 Burton Drive. It’s a lovely little lodge, which is situated on 26 acres. You can stroll around the gardens and eat in the casual dining restaurant there even if you are not an overnight guest. A splendid little path leads from the lodge’s grounds to the Cambria Pines Nursery, which is a delight in itself for garden lovers to explore.

Cambria is also convenient to wine tasting, as there are several wineries along Highway 46, which leads inland towards Paso Robles.

If you’re heading to Hearst Castle for the first time, you’re in for a real treat. Drive about six miles up the coast and park near the large visitor center. You can get tickets there to one of the tours and see a film about the place before boarding the bus up the mountain to William Randolph Hearst’s spectacular estate.

If you happen to like offbeat, decorative architectural relics, you can’t leave town without a quick drive up to Nit Wit Ridge. It’s actually a state historical landmark and can be found at 881 Hillcrest Drive. It took 51 years to build, and is adorned with all kinds of oddities, both natural and manmade, including toilets, abalone shells and car parts.

Other things to do in Cambria California include seasonal whale watching, going to the local theatre, or listening to live music.
